One of the things were looking at in our new film project Do Not Track about privacy, big data and surveillance is why surveillance fails as it has in Paris and earlier in Mumbai and on 9/11. Literature professors Aaron Santesso and David Rosen, authors of The Watchman in Pieces, believe that literature and film provide clues. Heres an excerpt from our interview with them about why Tolkeins Lord of the Rings is more accurate about surveillance than George Orwells 1984.
