One offshoot of 60’s music not often talked about was the enormous amount of instrumental hits that made the charts… from ‘Wipeout’ by the Surfaris; ‘Cast your Fate to the Wind’ by Sounds Orchestral; ‘Telstar’ by the Tornados; ‘The Lonely Bull’ by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass; ‘Green Onions’ by Booker T and the Mgs; ‘Linus and Lucy’, by Vince Guaraldi; ‘L’Amour est Bleu’, by Paul Mauriat - these and many, many more also helped to define that incredible decade of music… For me, the one instrumental that I associate with the 60’s is Mason Williams’ ‘Classical Gas’, first performed on the Smothers Brothers Show with an accompanying video showing the social and military upheavals taking place in the U.S. and around the world during the latter part of the decade.. As the book says, “The Sixties – Years of Hope, Days of Rage…” https://youtube/watch?v=EEzyrpfrPEI
