One on the most brilliant and accurate articles i have read on reading. My oldest daughter hates reading (sadly, much to my dismay, sniff!); i took the traditional teacher approach with her, hours of flash cards, letter recognition, a story read to her morning and before bed time etc, in a hope that she would get it quickly. No such luck. With my youngest daughter, i did the exact opposite (in fact i did close on nothing, except read to her haphazardly) and she was determined that because i didnt take the time...put in the effort (whichever it was) to teach she would take the time to self learn. It produced a precocious reader. Just goes to show you.
