One person has been arrested for making false threats regarding a possible attack on Ray-Pec High School. This morning, Superintendent Dr. Kari Monsees, Raymore Police Captain Roger Mayberry, and Peculiar Police Chief Harry Gurin provided an update about a threat of violence at Ray-Pec High School. Here is a statement from Superintendent Dr. Kari Monsees: Last evening we were made aware that a student had posted comments on social media that a violent incident may occur at our High School today. Police have been investigating the situation and we do not believe it represents a credible threat. As a precaution, we will have several officers from the Peculiar and Raymore police departments as well as the Cass County Sherriff’s office at our schools today. Any students involved in generating false rumors regarding school safety will be addressed through our discipline policy. We appreciated the cooperation of local law enforcement to help ensure we have a safe school day. I also want to thank our parents for sharing their concerns about this matter in a timely fashion so that we could respond accordingly. Here is a statement from Captain Roger Mayberry of the Raymore Police Department: Yesterday evening, acting on information provided by the Peculiar Police Department and the Raymore-Peculiar School District, the Raymore Police Department interviewed and eventually arrested a person of interest for making false threats regarding a possible attack on the Ray-Pec High School. The person of interest was subsequently taken to the Cass County Jail pending charges by the Cass County Prosecutor’s office. Because formal charges have not yet been brought in this case, we cannot reveal the identity of the subject at this time. As with all threats of this nature, it was taken very seriously by everyone involved. However, after our investigation, it was our belief that none of the students and faculty of the school were in any real danger. Thanks to the Raymore-Peculiar School District for its cooperation in this investigation.
