One person on the planet can say that the sound of her heartbeat has reached beyond our solar system: Ann Druyan, executive producer and writer for this years Emmy-winning series, Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey. In 1977, as creative director of the team headed by her late husband, the astronomer Carl Sagan (author of the original Cosmos, the best-seller that inspired the renowned PBS series), Druyan created a portrait of Earth from natural sounds, images, music, and spoken words. Also including recordings of Druyans own heartbeat, the composition - known as the Golden Record - was placed aboard the unmanned space probes Voyager 1 and 2, intended as an intergalactic greeting to any form of life that might encounter, hear, and comprehend the sounds. Presented in conjunction with The Boundary of Life is Quietly Crossed, this program unites science and art in the persons of Druyan and Dario Robleto, who will discuss the creation of the Golden Record and the relationship between logic and emotion.
