One question we get asked a lot is How/Why did you guys start TMM? We usually have some witty answers or something that sounds cool for a bio, but the answer can really be summed up in one word: Shane. Prior to TMM, T and V were part of a little hiphop project, The Rugcutters, that made a few ripples in the Austin scene. However, as with many projects, the members went their separate ways due to creative differences, personal conflicts, whatever. One of the members of this project was Shane Medley aka The Baron. On June 1, 2007, Shane took his own life. Shortly thereafter, after having no artistic collaboration for over 3 years, V and T shared a beer at Shanes favorite spot and decided to pen a song together to honor their fallen brother. Shanes Song was created and Texas Microphone Massacre was born, eventually evolving from an off-beat satire of hiphop to the monster it has become today. Why are we telling you this now? Its Shanes birthday today, and starry-eyed as it may be, we like to think part of his immortality is in what we do. Happy Birthday, brother. We hope what were doing now makes it to you in some way, wherever you are. Its because of you that its happening.
