"One thing I’ve learned is that the hardest thing to do is the right thing, because even though the end result is rewarding it is a long and difficult journey to the end. On many days when you do the right thing, you will receive little to no support. It is like running a marathon and there is no one at the finish line waiting to give you a bottle of water. It is like lifting weights and not having a spotter there to make sure the weights don’t cave into your chest. It is like playing in a very important sports game and when you look out into the bleachers, there is no one in the crowd there to root you on. Again, being an organizer/activist is a lonely and unappreciative journey sometimes. You have to stay focused on why you are doing what you are doing and never lose your connection to the people, because at your lowest point somebody you don’t know will tell you how much what you are doing has changed their life or is making a positive impact on them."
