One very vocal Yoruba Nationalist, Adeyinka Grandson, a real man, that I happen to share the desire for regional autonomy and true federalism in Nigeria was crying out about the marginalization and cheating of Yoruba in Nigeria and how the resources of the South West is being funneled to Abuja to develop other parts of Nigeria thus impoverishing the Yoruba people. Here is my response to him: The wealth and the infrastructure spread across Nigeria is 90% funded from the proceeds of oil derived from the Niger Delta. Oil revenue built Lagos when Lagos was the federal capital. Tin can Island port and the Lagos Airport were built with oil income. All the economic and commercial derivatives and subsequent activities and down stream trading that create wealth in Nigeria are tied to Nigeria foreign exchange earnings. What does Nigeria produce and export to earn the foreign exchange? Oil and Gas earnings accounts for 95% of Nigeria national budget and dollar income. So by inference, there is no debate that rent and oil leases paid to NNPC funds the Nigeria federation. Niger Delta own NNPC thus Nigeria is indebted to the Niger delta people. So if we want to talk about those who are impoverish by the fraudulent Nigeria arrangement, it is the Urhobo,Okpe, Itsekiri, Isoko,,Ijaw, Ibbibio, Ogoni Calabari and the collectives in the Niger Delta people.
