While summer was a time for rest and relaxation for many, Pledge 2 Protect stayed focused on the fight against the East 91st Street garbage dump. In the month of August alone, 21 volunteers were arrested for voicing their opposition to the dangerous East 91st Street Marine Transfer Station (MTS). Our message to de Blasio is clear: WE ARE NOT GOING AWAY!! We continue to escalate on ALL fronts, as the facts are clear, the East 91st Street MTS is not needed and doesn’t belong in a densely populated residential community. We continue to meet with City officials to ensure that, if built, the MTS will have as little impact as possible on this community. We continue to have a huge presence on the ground and in the media, to ensure the city hears us loud and clear; this does not help overburdened communities and only creates new harm at astronomical cost. Watch and share our dramatic new video: The Stanley Isaacs Holmes residents have become the forgotten people of the environmental justice community. The public housing children have come out with a special message to the Mayor – WATCH. We urge you to share the video with your friends, family and neighbors. Help us launch our new citywide television ad: A hard-hitting TV ad that directly challenges Mayor de Blasio for his decision to continue building the East 91st Street MTS, and that informs New Yorkers citywide about the dangers of that decision. Through great efforts and your generous donations, we have already raised hundreds of thousands of dollars. Our next big effort is to get our new ad on the air. However, to be effective in reaching citywide audiences we need to raise hundreds of thousands more. To launch the new TV ad, and to escalate all of our grassroots, lobbying and public relations activities, we need your financial support. We ask you to continue to stand with us in this fight by making as generous a donation as you can. Help us spread the word by reaching out to your family, friends and neighbors, asking them to donate as well. Donations can be made online or by check to: Pledge 2 Protect, 150 Columbus Ave, Suite 16C, New York, NY 10023. Remember – if we keep fighting, we will change this situation – we have already made significant progress with your help and support. Together we can find a better way! And finally, this article in the Huffington Post, by Matthew Chapman, is a MUST READ.
