One way to look at the Israeli government’s position that it - TopicsExpress

One way to look at the Israeli government’s position that it can’t continue peace negotiations with the Palestinians because they have reconciled Hamas and the Palestine Authority is that its like saying Israel will only negotiate with a fractured Palestinian front. The Palestinians could as readily say they can’t negotiate with an Israel that represents Israel’s moderate majority and its Zionist Eretz-Israel extremists. But another way to look at developments is that the Palestinians knew a reconciliation between Hamas, which rules Gaza, and the Authority would give Israel a reason to walk out of the negotiations. So it boils down to whether Israel is operating in bad faith or the Palestinians are acting in bad faith or they’re both acting in bad faith. One thing is patently obvious: if both sides wanted peace there would be peace. But, as always, it’s hard to know who the villains are. It’s as patently clear the United States is a villain in its historic refusal to pressure Israel to rein in its expansionists. Doing so would simply not suit the military-industrial complex which wants to arm Israel to the teeth and use it.
