One week ago today my Mom went to heaven. I have thought about her last week on this earth a lot and I will admit it was the hardest thing that I have ever done; sitting with her and watching her slip away from us. But I would not have been any other place on earth. My brother asked me last night what lessons I learned from our mother, it was a easy question to answer; modesty and morals, strength of character, unconditional love, but never take any grief – stand up for yourself. My mom had a very hard life, but you would have never known it. I think about what she said when we told her she had terminal brain cancer; Brad asked her about the treatments; she said “well, we will let the doctors do what they do and GOD do what he does and see what happens”. There was never a pity party, oh we cried, but not out of pity but the fact that we did not want her to leave us. Her home going was so easy she just simply slipped away peacefully. As Brad and I stood at her bedside watching the women that was our mother slip from this world to the next; we looked at each other with a big question mark on our faces, finally I asked, is she gone? She did not follow the Hospice Rule Book for Dying, and that was our Lords doing. It was peaceful and full of love. At her memorial service – GOD’S presence was once again so strong and sweet that 13 people raised their hands for the Lord to rule their lives. She would have been so happy. Our family has a peace and assurance that we will see her again; do you have that peace that comes only from the Lord Jesus? If not you can, just ask.
