One word for M Rampele n One word for Zuma MAMPHELA Ramphele has issued a very tough challenge to Jacob Zuma to declare his personal financial status . . . and has backed it up by revealing her own. She said South Africans deserve a president who sets a good example for the rest of the country. “I’m setting an example for President Zuma. I call on him to disclose his finances immediately,” she said. “I have R55 million in assets. There is nothing to hide.” She said that President Zuma has always dodged the issue. “With each passing day suspicion about his integrity mounts,” Ramphele told media in Braamfontein, Joburg. The Agang leader said her fortune included her property in Cape Town’s posh Camp’s Bay suburb which is valued at R10 million. She said her salary has decreased since she resigned from all her board positions and now totals R366 000 per year. “I am opening my finances for the people of South Africa to look at.” She accused the ANC of talking about fighting corruption while also embracing people guilty of the act. Ramphele was defiant about the R2 million she earned as a board member while working for mining companies which paid miners so little. “I worked hard for that money and I have no regrets. We have people who sit in parliament sleeping who get paid a million rand,” she said. She once again attacked the R250million price tag on President Zuma’s Nkandla homestead. “The president is spending millions on a cattle kraal while people have no schools and no hospitals,” she said. “Corruption is the cancer in our society. Only transparency and accountability can help cure the problem.” Ramphele’s funds are broken down as follows: - Shareholdings: Anglo American, Gold Fields, Sibanye Gold and PTI Select Managers Funds, R1,384,800. - Land and property: Camps Bay residence, R10 million. - Pensions: Retirement annuity R1146139, provident fund R1574064. - Indirect holding: Family trust R30 million, investment trust R10 985 000.
