One year ago today Hurricane Sandy made landfall in the Northeast. Alot of us knew the storm was going to be a major weather event but I dont think any of us really knew the impact it would have on us in both the short and long term. In the days immediately following the storm, the Long Island Fire service responded to tens of thousands of storm related alarms that included hundreds of working fires. With assistance from agencies from around New York State, Long Islanders started the long and difficult process of recovery. Several of our FD Rant News correspondents suffered great personal losses as a result of the storm. Like thousands of Long Islanders, they had the daunting task to rebuild their homes after they lost nearly everything they had due to flooding. We are happy to report that they have been able to recover and are doing well today. All of us here at FD Rant News would like to extend our warmest regards to everyone who was affected during the storm and we also offer our condolences to those who lost a loved one as a result of the storm. Finally, we would like to tip our cap to the FINEST fire departments in the world for their dedication, their performance and their enduring spirits. We are posting the three special editions of the FD Rant News that we ran in the weeks immediately following the storm. issuu/fdrantnews/docs/lifd-rant-news-special-editon-hurri issuu/fdrantnews/docs/lifd-rant-news-special-edition-hurr issuu/fdrantnews/docs/lifd-rant-news-special-edition-hurr_330b76f917568f
