Only God will protect you in a country where the police are - TopicsExpress

Only God will protect you in a country where the police are powerless and by extension useless. If you are wondering why so many road accidents, the answer is simple. Salone Police will see an overloaded vehicle, accepts his/her pass and let it go. If you complaint, they will ask you to come down instead after you would have paid your money. Recently I had to ground an Ali Abess bus in Kenema for more then three hours because they wanted to take 37 passengers instead of 23. I was passenger 35, and when it was my time to board, I refused to share a small middle seat with another person. I mobilized the passengers to come down and we made a big voice about the issues. I went to the Police station called the Police team of 8 headed by a certain ASP. They counted the seats and accepted that it was a case of overloading. But thats all they can do. The driver refused to reduce the number of passengers saying he has been running his vehicle on that number of passengers and will not change because one passenger is not ok. Shamefully, the Police officers of the republic of Sierra Leone said We have spoken to the driver and he has refused to cut down the number of passengers, so because of time, we will beg you to manage (meaning 37 seating in a bus for 23). Those who know Matthew Brima very well will know that in those situations he will not accept that offer especially when it was coming from a man who dont understand why they are cutting my salary to pay him every month. I refused with the support of the passengers, we called a radio station and made big voice on-air, called the ONS becuase the LUC and Commissioner of Police refused to pick up our calls. Well it all ended with a different bus and everyone to his own seat. I then gave a talk on fighting corruption, we prayed and left Kenema. It costed us time but we made change. What can you sacrifice to make Salone a better place. All this was for Meroma (my 5 months old Daughter) to have a better future. What are you doing today for your children or generations unborn?
