Onychectomy means bone amputation. Basically, its like cutting off our fingers at the first knuckle. Our nails grow from the skin, a cats nails grow from the bone. The entire knuckle has to be removed, not just the claw itself. Declawing is not some minor, pain-free procedure that it sounds like. Its actually quite invasive, and results in a pain level that is high (unlike spay/neuter surgery which is moderate to mild) and can result in chronic, debilitating pain afterward. This procedure is banned in 20 countries. I implore you to watch this documentary (available on Netflix) before making the decision to have - what I feel is - a barbaric act performed on your cat.
