Open Door Policy in the County Executives Office For many - TopicsExpress

Open Door Policy in the County Executives Office For many years, key decision making in the County Executives Office has been behind closed doors, with little or no input from our county residents and taxpayers. Any efforts by our residents to provide input into governmental decision making has ultimately fallen on deaf ears. Unlike Steve Ehlmann, I have lived in unincorporated St. Charles County for the past 16 years and have personally experienced this inattention on part of the current administration! It has been the practice of the Ehlmann Administration to formulate initiatives in secrecy without benefit of public hearings, only to notify our residents 24 hours in advance, via the Council Agenda, that the initiative will be presented to the County Council for final approval. This practice affords our county residents little or no time to react and provide critical citizen input! This practice must stop! If elected, I propose an Open Door Policy in the County Executives Office, allowing our residents an opportunity to contact the County Executives Office through a dedicated hot line, to voice comments, complaints and concerns about how their St. Charles County Government is performing. Additionally, time will be set aside each week to schedule appointments with our residents on issues of significant importance to our community. Also, I will assure that key appointments to commissions and boards will be done on a non-partisan basis, and participation on these boards not just limited to friends and partisan allies of the County Executive, as is now the current practice. Every county resident will be entitled to apply for a position on County boards and commissions as terms expire and openings exist. Furthermore, I will assure that public hearings are held on projects of key importance to our residents, even those legally not required to go before a public forum, to assure that our residents are able to provide key input BEFORE the projects are set in motion! Finally, I will implement quarterly TOWN HALL MEETINGS, to give St. Charles County residents an opportunity to meet with me and key executive staff members to discuss local issues impacting each of the seven County Council Districts. Scheduled quarterly meetings would rotate to different venues, for the convenience of our local residents. Local government must exist to preserve and protect the personal liberties of every county resident, regardless of socio-economic status or political affiliation. I would sincerely appreciate your vote on November 4th! Sincerely, Rod Zerr Candidate St. Charles County Executive P.S.
