Open For Business By Larry Gordon The election of Barrack Obama to a second term gained the immediate qualification of his presidency and his administration as being referred to as one that is a “lame duck.” That is not specifically meant to be disparaging or derogatory in any way as this is a common fashion in which to refer to a president that does not have to face the electorate anymore as presidents of the US are limited to two terms. But that is not the case necessarily with this president. As Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan said not too long ago, “President Obama is not a lame duck, he is just lame.” I don’t believe there has been a greater truism uttered by the pundits in the recent past. It seems that everything about this president is disingenuous and based on his belief and confidence that the American people can be duped and fooled again and again. And his foibles and miscalculations on both domestic and foreign policy are a combination of starling and amazing. His position on Egypt, both times landing on the wrong side of where public sentiment in Egypt was demonstrated an amazing disconnection and understanding of what it taking place on the ground over there. Domestically he spoke out way too soon in support of Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Florida when after that unfortunate murder Obama said that, “If I had a son he would look like Trayvon Martin.” I mean martin may have tried to murder George Zimmerman, so what was that comment about? In Fort Hood Texas where US Major Nidal Hassan is accused of murdering 13 US military personnel and injuring 32 others while screaming, “Allah Akba”, the Obama Justice Department refused to categorize this event as terrorism and insists on referring to it as an episode of workplace violence. What is that about? Is this for real? There are, however, also things that I like about Mr. Obama. For example I like the way he searches around for words when forced to comment extemporaneously on a matter. He looks so lost and unsure. And I would be remiss if I did not observe or comment that I have never seen the president in a suit, shirt and tie that I didn’t like. Not doing so good, Mr. President, but certainly looking good.
