Open Letter from Afghan National Liberation Front to the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan: Your Excellency Mr. Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, AssalaamoAlaikum waRahmatullahe waBarakatoh With this letter, the Afghan National Liberation Front, and its affiliates put forward their strongest objection regarding the mistreatment of His Excellency, Professor HazratSibghatullahAl-Mojaddedi, formerPresident of Afghanistan and the Leader of Afghan National Liberation Front, during the officialceremony commemorating the sacrifices of our country’smartyrs, held on September 9th, 2014.At this fragile time that political differences, once again, are threatening the national solidarity of our country, this impertinent behavior was indeed vile and unnecessary. Mr. President; Unfortunatelyall the evidence point to the fact that the action of disrespectfully jeering His Excellency,Professor SibghatullahAl-Mojaddedi,from the stage was preplanned. As you are well aware, it was your Excellency’s office that emphasized and joined the two separately planned gatherings (those of Sep. 08 and 09) for commemoration of the martyrs, into a single gathering. Yet, your office eitherfailed, or did not intendto maintain order during the ceremony. Thus the office of the President shares the blame in this regard. To highlight the situation, we bring the following points to your attention: 1. His ExcellencyProfessorAl-Mojaddedi, was initially planning to attend a proposed commemorating gathering on September08, 2014, based on invitation fromother prominentAfghan figures and politicians, including His Excellency Mr. Ahmad Zia Masoud. On your insistence, the proposed gathering was cancelled, and everyone was invited to the official government ceremony of September 09, 2014. 2. Based on received reports that members of Dr. Abdullah Abdullah’s team were planning to disrupt the ceremonyand considering the fact that your government’s key security posts are with members of Dr. Abdullah’s team,Hazrat SahibAl-Mojaddedi was advised by his security not to attend the September 09 ceremony. 3. Afterwards, Mr. InayatullahNazari, the Deputy Minister of Defense, and yourappointed head of the planning commission for the proposed ceremony, officially invited His Excellency, through a written invitation, to attend the gathering and also deliver aspeech. The formal invitation wasfollowed by a telephone call and insistence by Mr. Nazarifor Professor Al-Mojaddedi to attend the gathering. 4. Because the political and security advisors stillhad serious concerns, His Excellency personally contacted Mr. Nazari, who assured him that, “we have taken all precautions, and there are no perceived threats, so please attend.” Thus, in order to honor the memory of our martyrs, Professor Al-Mojaddedidecided to attend the government-planned ceremony of September 9th. 5. The organizers of your program were discriminately selectivein their invitation process;with the exception of government officials, the invitees were from among a selected group from Dr. Abdullah’s supporters. Even those who had agreed with your Office to cancel theirSeptember 8thgathering were not providedwith open cards to invite their guests and supporters. If in your official ceremony a proper representation ofthe various tribes and parties of Afghanistan were taken into consideration, an impoliteminority would not have dared to act disrespectfullytoHis Excellency,Professor Al-Mojaddedi. 6. Additionally, duringthe ceremony attended by H.E.ProfessorAl-Mojaddedi, the following actions, whichfurthersignify the fact that this was a preplanned event, were displayed: i. Against all protocol, no one from Professor Al-Mojaddedi’sentourage, or even his security staff, was allowed to enter the hallto accompanyHis Excellency. Thus ProfessorAl-Mojaddedi entered the hall without personal assistance. ii. This action was initially taken by your own security staff and later by adirect involvement fromthe Defense Minister, Mr. Bismillah Khan. iii. Mr. Nazari, who had personally invited and insisted for Professor Al-Mojaddedi to attend, while giving clear assurances, completely ignored His Excellency’s presence during his speech. He named all individual VIP guests, paid respects to each, but failed to even acknowledge the presence of His Excellency Professor Al-Mojaddedi. This was indicative of obvious disrespect and we consider it asa prelude to what was about to occur. Mr. President; Itis obvious that certain supporters of Dr. Abdullah were quite angered by the fact that H.E.Professor Al-Mojaddedidid not support Dr. Abdullah’s presidential candidacy. Coupled with their chronic brash attitudes has been Your Excellency’s sustained compromising efforts trying to secure Dr. Abdullah concessions beyond the boundaries of Afghanistan’s constitution. This unfair message was also quite overtly expressed during your speech on September 09, which was in clear opposition to Professor Al-Mojaddedi’s stand. This allowed the supporters of Dr. Abdullah to gain steam and express their misplaced frustrations in a very disrespectful manner to one of the most prominent contemporary figures of Afghanistan in a gathering organized by your office. Our party, Afghan National Liberation Front, the party that paved the wayfor your own political growth, and the party that effectively supported your two presidential candidacies, has constantly experienced discriminatory behavior from your side. For example, you are well aware thatwithin your entire Cabinet and the local governments, our party has no representation with the exception of a newly appointed governor; not even at the level of a directorate post or a district governor. At the same time, we have witnessed your unfair yielding and provision of unlimited posts to certain factionsof JameeyateIslami party. You have obviously not been fair in your dealings with us. Mr. President; Please be aware that despite these political bereavements, followersand supporters of His Excellency Hazrat SahibAl-Mojaddedi, members of Afghan National Liberation Front in particular, are fully capable to defendtheir beloved leader as well asto show the same reaction to the leaders of those who are trying tothrive on character assassination of our elders. Please do not considerour abstinence from sharp responses, our patience, and our adherence to higher moral standards as our weakness. We believe in governance and we expect your government to take swift action in investigating the mistreatment that occurred against His Excellency, Hazrat Sahib Sibghatullah Al-Mojaddedi, during the ceremony held on September 9th, 2014; an unacceptable behavior that was conducted in yourpresence. If your office fails to take swift action, then you are signaling that the honor of Afghan notables can be put to risk by the ambitions of those who seek power, wealth, and fame. Your inaction and compliant attitude, and show of weakness in this regard will further compromise our volatile society by promoting disrespect, disharmony, and lack of responsibility. In that event, the people of Afghanistan will not forgive you or your administration. The honorable and respectful nation of Afghanistan awaits your immediate action in this regard within the limits of the law and valued customs of Afghanistan. Respectfully, Executive Council of Afghan National Liberation Front. sahar-tv/
