Opening This Friday; Artist Dialogue on Saturday The Carla Massoni Gallery 203 High Street Chestertown, MD 21620 timeless rhythms : sensing change April 4 – May 4, 2014 Opening Reception: April 4, 2014 5 – 7:30 pm ARTIST DIALOGUE and FORUM Sensing Change: Science Art & Creativity Saturday, April 5, 2014 Garfield Center for the Arts (across the street from the gallery) 11:30 am – 1:00 pm Featuring the work of John Ruppert, Greg Mort, Zaria Forman, Lisa Lebofsky, Drew Denny, Grace Mitchell, Heidi Fowler, Deborah Weiss, and Leigh Wen. Artists act as a sensing element* for humankind and are often the first to note disruption in nature’s rhythms be they environmental or social. The artists selected all have an underlying connection to environmental concerns - Grace Mitchell to the Hudson River and Piermont Marsh; Zaria Forman, Lisa Lebofsky and filmmaker Drew Denny to the Arctic and the Maldives; Leigh Wen to the elemental power of water; and Greg Mort to humankind’s place within the larger universe and our stewardship on Earth. Deborah Weiss explores the fleeting effects of atmospheric conditions on land and water. John Ruppert draws inspiration from natural phenomena and man’s manipulation of nature; and Heidi Fowler’s work addresses concepts of consumerism, stewardship, and the paradox of independence/dependence within our societal landscape. massoniart/index.php?cat=exhibitions
