Opening of the Architectural and Design Days which took place from 13-15 of May at GJUs Darat Othman Bdeir Under the patronage of the President of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Prof. Dr. Margret Wintermantel as well as in the presence of His Excellency Mr. Ralph Tarraf, the German Ambassador and Prof. Natheer Abu Obeid, the GJU President, the School of Architecture and Built Environment (SABE) celebrated the opening of the Architecture and Design Days, which took place in the frame of the German Weeks 2014. Prof. Dr. Wintermantel underlined the importance of the special GJU track in the field of architecture and design at a local level and in the whole region. She added that the SABE contributes to the excellent reputation of GJU. She also asserted that DAAD is proud to support GJU, and its innovative and unique academic transnational project. Ambassador Tarraf expressed his pleasure and honor to attend this event, saying that he is always impressed by the GJU students’ spirit of creativity. He also took the opportunity to explain the main idea behind the German weeks, which is about bringing together all German institutions, organizations and companies active in the country, as it would help shape the future of Germany and Jordan’s longstanding friendship. He further mentioned the most three characteristics that distinguished GJU, the German year, the qualified academic staff and the great cooperation with the private sector. Prof. Abu Obeid thanked the DAAD, the major supporter of GJU, saying that GJU is very proud of this special relationship. He also extended his gratitude to Amman Municipality for its appreciation of GJU‘s decision of transferring the SABE to Jabal Amman, where the culture and history of Amman revives. He also emphasized that students will participate in reshaping Amman and transforming it to be the city of significant culture and has surprising contrasts. It is worth mentioning that the guests took a tour to the school and its educational exhibitions, which were organized by the Architecture and Design students and staff under the guidance of the Dean Dr. Mohammad Yaghan.
