Opening the Stupa For the last three nights Ngari Khangtsen monks have been praying over Khensur Rinpoche Jampa Tegchok’s resting stupa. (photos below) Tomorrow, Sunday, November 9th during prayers and puja, we will be opening Rinpoche’s stupa. Following tradition, upon opening the stupa, bone and the ashes of Rinpoche will be gathered, a close search for relics (unusual sacred objects left by the cremated body) will be done. Rinpoche’s remains will then be placed inside a bronze and gold relic stupa (about 1 meter in height) that will be kept in the new Ngari temple so that all that visit can offer their prayers and reflect on Rinpoche’s amazing kindness and his selfless contribution to sentient beings. Other remains are ground up into powder and used to make ‘tsa tsas’ (Small clay impressions of deities) while the last of the ashes will be poured into a river while prayers are recited. The opening of the stupa will begin at 7:30am with the puja starting at 8am. The puja will be performed by Ngari Khangtsen monks with many high lamas in attendance. Prayers during this time will aid in Rinpoches swift rebirth. After the ceremony, offering scarves and a mandala will be offered at Rinpoche’s home at Ngari Khangtsen. We are currently seeking donation to help with the cost of Rinpoche’s cremation as well as donations for the bronze and gold relic stupa that we need to have made for Rinpoche’s remains. This is an amazing opportunity for students to gain merit and to show appreciation for everything Rinpoche has done for all of us.
