Opening track from XTCs 1983 release, Mummer. They began incorporating elements of world music into their compositions, and I started listening to various forms of world music while in high school, so I was drawn in from the first measures. This was an incredibly formative album for me. It wasnt so easy to get new music back then, with no internet. You had to buy or record an album, so it was very precious and you had to be selective in what you chose. It was difficult to even learn what you wanted to listen to; had to read magazines, books, word of mouth, etc. If you havent heard much XTC, this is an essential requirement; absolutely pushing the boundaries of pop music.
