Operation High Octane Friday, May 23, 2014 In an effort to crack down on fraudsters who steal credit card information utilizing illegal skimming devices, detectives with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Economic Crimes Unit along with investigators from the Department of Agriculture and Cape Coral Police Department conducted a joint operation dubbed “High Octane”. The focus of the operation was to inspect gas station pumps and intercept any illegal skimming devices. Thirty two (32) stations were inspected and three (3) skimming devices were located. Investigation of the confiscated devices is ongoing. Additionally, while conducting the inspections, a suspicious individual was observed attempting to use multiple credit cards inside a store. Detectives spoke to the male who was found to be in possession of over thirty (30) credit cards, of which numerous cloned cards contained information that is consistent with personal banking data belonging to victims. A credit card re-encoder device was located inside the suspect’s car. A female passenger was arrested for an outstanding traffic warrant. Curtis Dover (DOB 1-18-84) was subsequently arrested for the possession of the cards. Sheriff Mike Scott and other members of the Lee County Sheriffs Office are committed in taking a proactive stance to protect the citizens of Lee County by continued efforts such as operation “High Octane”.
