Operation Hot Chocolate failed at the Luna Compound tonight. It - TopicsExpress

Operation Hot Chocolate failed at the Luna Compound tonight. It all started with discussion of my most favorite Christmas move ever, The Polar Express. This led to the desire to make hot chocolate and surprise Paige with a cup of the delicious perfect-for-a-cold-night beverage. Unfortunately, this surprise would turn into a complete disaster and teach me lessons pertaining to kitchen management. First off a cat is not a sous-chef and is there only to steal your milk. Secondly, and I admit, a stove has more than one setting of off and burn-baby-burn to bring said milk to a boiling point. Being distracted by the beauty of a certain woman questioning my actions from the living room and another attempted feline invasion, my attention was drawn from rapidly heating milk which resulted in a boiling milk-chocolate overflow. The powerful waters of Shoal Creek couldnt compare to the rush of boiling, chocolatey milk into my stove and floor. By this time Paige was alerted to trouble especially after smoke and flames became visible from the kitchen. Lesson 3 is that a kitchen rag isnt fire proof and should be fully removed from the stove top while operating at the aforementioned maximum setting. Regardless, my brief blaze was quickly and professional extinguished with quick mutual aid from the kitchen sink. Still hoping to salvage my hot chocolate, I quickly grabbed the closest thing to me to pour the steaming contents into, a plastic cup. Lesson 4 concludes this post mission briefing in that after transferring the liquid to the proper serving apparatus (coffee cup), and delivering it to my bride of nearly a decade, the hot chocolate had a rather unique plastic coating to it. This is because the plastic device had melted into it therefore further spoiling tonights surprise. Bonus Lesson 5: I live close enough to established restaurants to purchase a cup for the low price of $.69 per serving. I greatly appreciate Paige for taking time to make the short drive and getting us hot chocolate. Tonights kitchen mishap ranks in a close second to my greatest and first such event... the burning of sweet tea. However, thats another story for another day.
