Operation Shiva’ an invasion, no threat to pilgrims: Geelani Written by Srinagar: KDNN Wednesday, 19 June 2013 21:52 Chairman Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Shah Geelani while terming the proposed "Operation Shiva" a “well planned game” by Indian authorities said the move is "aimed at to malign and discredit the ongoing freedom struggle". He said that no such threat exists to Amarnath pilgrims either from people or militants. “It is highly deplorable that India is trying to mislead its people and international community,” Geelani in a statement issued said. The octogenarian leader added that "the whole matter is part of the well fabricated scheme". “There are no such threats from any section of militants and it is the handiwork of forces and a deliberate attempt to create confusion and misconceptions,” he claimed. He said that Amarnath Shrine Board runs a "state within a state" and the board has turned a "simple religious tradition into a military aggression against the people of Jammu and Kashmir". “The people of Jammu and Kashmir are not communal and have nothing to do with sectarian politics. Kashmiris are famous for their humble nature. Since last 150 years, the Amarnath Yatra is being conducted and during all this period the people of Jammu and Kashmir have treated pilgrims with the unique hospitality.” Geelani said the main objective of "Operation Shiva" is to handover Yatra route to armed forces. He said India is trying to use a simple religious ritual as a tool to implement their political and military objectives. Terming the operation as an invasion and military intervention, the Hurriyat Chairman said that by allowing 16 thousand pilgrims a day to cave have turned a simple pilgrimage into a political aggression against people of Jammu and Kashmir. Geelani while referring to the major incidents like Chattisingpora and Alfarhan episode said that Indian Army under the garb of these fake episodes in the past had tried to give bad name to freedom struggle, and “in future such shrewd ploy aimed at maligning the freedom movement cannot be ruled out.” “In past, the forces were mastermind behind the mysterious massacres but, as of now, the whole world understands that their plan is to discredit Mujahedeen,” Geelani said. While reiterating his demand to handover Amaranth Shrine Board to local Pandits, Geelani urged to run Yatra on Gangotri type and called for limiting the number of visiting pilgrims to save the fragile atmosphere. “It is detrimental for local forests and water resources.” The Hurriyat Conference Chairman while recalling the blockades of supplies by some sections of people belonging to Jammu in year 2008 and 2010 said, “During the people’s uprising when forces were showering bullets and killing innocent Kashmiris, the local people, contrary to this, served and supplied the necessary food items to desperate pilgrims
