Opposition sceptical about Mamatas Singapore trip Kolkata, 17 August: Even as the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee left for Singapore today to scout for investment, Opposition leaders said no investors would set up shops in Bengal for lack of proper investment climate under Trinamul Congress regime. CPI-M state secretary Mr Biman Bose today said that the investment climate in the state was far from encouraging for industrialists since extortion by the syndicates had assumed alarming proportions under the Trinamul regime. He demanded that the government should disclose the names of the industrialists who are accompanying the chief minister. As long as extortion and anarchy prevail in Bengal, setting up industries is like building castles in the air, Mr Bose said. Yesterday, BJP leader in charge of West Bengal, Mr Siddharth Nath Singh. questioned the real intention of the trip, wondering whether Miss Banerjee wanted to park Saradha chit fund money . Mr Sudip Bandopadhyay,Trinamul Congress vice president and Leader of the party in the Lok Sabha, said many top-ranking leaders of the world including former US secretary of the state Hillary Clinton had been in touch with Ms Banerjee and she has agreed to visit Singapore after its Prime Minister expressed his eagerness to meet her. The Opposition in Bengal has become irrelevant and there is no need to attach any importance to what it says about the Chief Minister. It is not a mean achievement for Miss Banerjee to be able to get top international leaders interested in Bengal. She has got many invitations, but accepted that of Singapore Prime Minister as Singapore is one of the finest hubs of industry in the world, Mr Bandopadhyay said. The whole trip to Singapore is nothing but a publicity stunt. Its not a childs play to attract investment. Ms Banerjee should not think that if she goes to Singapore and ask the investors there to come to Bengal, they would immediately flock to Bengal, PCC chief Mr Adhir Chowdhury said. sns
