Orchidaceae Urban Tribal is a dance company where Tribal Fusion Belly Dance meets urban dance styles, searching for a place where the blending of vocabularies becomes a unique style. They are based in Lisbon and started working as a group in 2012 with Piny, as founder and artistic director, and some special students and professional dancers she was working with and respected. In 2013 the Tribal Fusion style of the company starts melting with Hip Hop, after the integration of the previous members from the Hip Hop crew Butterfliesoulflow and the real adventure starts. ButterflieSoulFlow is a female Hip Hop dance crew, formed by Piny, Lucia and Leo, born in 2006, specialized in battles and performances, videoclips and freestyle sessions with djs and music bands. Urban Tribal Belly Dance was the name, just a name, they found interesting to describe their work, since their dancers have strong backgrounds in Hip Hop, Popping, Waacking, Breakdance, House and Contemporary Dance beside the Tribal Fusion Belly Dance. They premiere as a dance company in 2012 at TribaLx (Lisbon) and since that moment they are experiencing growth and challenges internationally. They presented two full shows of their own “Cinema Delirium” and “Variety Madness” in 2013, exploring new concepts, fusing all the languages they have and working with video and live music. They perform since 2012 at TribaLx and performed internationally for the first time in 2014 at Bellyfusions, Paris. Since then they have performed in Tribal Art (Barcelona), Infusion Emporium (Wolverhampton), Shimmy Shake (Rotherdam) and The Tribal Experience (Barcelona). The journey starts now. Piny Orchidaceae is the warrior, a dreamer, an art lover, a passionate and intense performer and a dedicated teacher with a special taste for challenges and breaking boundaries. Born in Lisbon she finished her BA in Architecture and later a post-graduation in Scenography and completed a BA in Contemporary Dance and Creation, while working as an Architect. During all this, she kept dancing. She did her first Bellydance class in 2000 but felt deeply in love with Hip Hop in 2003. In 2006, to express her love for breakdance, graffiti and vinyl records, she founded with her friends a female Hip Hop crew called ButterflieSoulflow. In 2009 she integrated the all styles Hip Hop crew Jukebox Project, where they develop work around Popping, Locking, New Style and Breakdance. With her crews she battle and performs. The passionate and relentless search for new approaches and new vocabularies, led her to travel internationally to learn, listen and understand the different styles. Her main areas of work are Breakdance, House Dance, Lofting, Waacking, Contemporary Dance and Tribal Fusion Belly Dance, always as a research lifetime project. As a Contemporary dancer she has choreographed solo and group pieces shown in different national festivals, and has been working as a freelancer for several choreographers. In 2012 she founded Orchidaceae Urban Tribal where the Hip Hop background meets Tribal Fusion Belly Dance, inviting special students and professional dancers to join the dance company.
