Oregon Emergency Management and the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training will be hosting a free Regional offering of a L-958: ICS Position Specific All Hazards Operations Section Chief course, March 10-13, 2014, at DPSST in Salem, Oregon. Class will be 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM each day and is limited to 30 participants. Overview: This course is designed to provide local and state-level emergency responders with a robust understanding of the duties, responsibilities, and capabilities of an effective OSC on an All-Hazards Incident Management Team. These responsibilities fall into two categories: 1) Responding to the incident and the command needs of the incident; and 2) Effectively fulfilling the position responsibilities of an Operations Section Chief on an All-Hazards ICS Incident Management Team. Exercises, simulations, discussions, and a final exam enable students to process and apply their new knowledge. Selection Criteria: NIMS ICS Position Specific training should be completed by personnel who are regularly assigned to functional, support, or unit leader positions on USFA or other Type III AHIMT, or by those persons who desire to seek credentials/certification in those positions. Attendance preference will be given to FEMA Region X States: Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. All other applicants will go on a waiting list. Prerequisites: ICS 100-400, IS-700: Intro to NIMS, and IS-800: Intro to NRF. Copies of course completion certificates must accompany your application. The Independent Study courses can be taken at: training.fema.gov/IS/ Funding Assistance: This is an Emergency Management Institute sponsored course. Funding is available to assist students with their travel costs. Standard NFA/EMI reimbursement policies will apply. Meals: Will be provided by DPSST. Lodging: Dorm room lodging is available at DPSST for those traveling more than 60 miles one-way. No offsite lodging will be reimbursed by EMI.
