Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival Class WS 360 – Spinning For Lace Fee: $55 (Spinning) Instructor: Cynthia Heeren, Bend, OR When: Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013 9:00 am-12:00 pm Description: Learn to spin for knitting or crocheting lace. This workshop explores properties of fibers most commonly used for lace—cashmere, silk, merino, angora, bast and other down fibers. We’ll cover what to look for when purchasing, how to tune your wheel for the best results, techniques to prepare fiber and how to spin fiber for lace. Skill Level: For those confident with spinning/plying fiber. Bring: spinning wheel. Cynthia Heeren is an accomplished fiber artist, popular instructor and judge. She teaches and judges fiber arts throughout the NW and relishes sharing the joy of her art. She has won numerous awards for her fiber arts, including two Champion awards for spinning at Black Sheep Gathering and the Black Sheep Cup for a handspun knitted lace shawl, the Diamond Award and several Grand Champions at OFFF, and Champion Spinner and Champion Article Made From Handspun at the OR State Fair. She also knits, crochets and designs for the commercial market and was featured in Handspun Treasures from Rare Wools; The Save the Sheep Project, and in Knit N’ Style magazine, and was OFFF’s featured artist in lace knitting in 2010. She lives on a farm in Bend, OR with husband Karl.
