Organ virtuoso Jon Lord would have been 73 today. While primarily known for being Deep Purples founding and longtime organist (later with DP offshoot Whitesnake too), he was also a composer and pianist famous for his fusion of baroque/classical themes with rock music. I wish I had more opportunities to hear him perform when he was alive, but I only got the chance once with Deep Purple in 1998. His former bandmate Ritchie Blackmore, one of my favorite guitarists, just released this instrumental tribute to Lord. Blackmore has largely been playing acoustic music for the past 20 years or so and its SO GOOD to hear him play electric again. No one plays like him!! Thanks to David Coffey for the heads up. While there are some classic Blackmore licks here, I was struck by several passages that recalled Andy Latimer of Camel - Band R.I.P. Jon Lord - You are missed. guitarworld/hear-carry-onjon-ritchie-blackmores-instrumental-tribute-deep-purples-jon-lord en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_Lord
