Original letter to The Province Subject: Bill C-36 The current legislation, Bill C-36, a safe streets crime Bill, is being put forth in the House of Parliament, by Prime Minister Steven Harpers, Minister of Justice, Peter MacKay. It is a micro beat of the pulse needed, to seriously deal with the exploitation of the oldest industry known to mankind. This Bill only reinforces all the negative aspects of prostitution, and ingrained attitudes toward the female body in general, by only placing a price to do business approach, for deterrence, especially, when we all know too well, that the mass majority of the victims, are First Nations or visible minority, and rely on this desperate revenue as a principle source of income. I truly believe that if the Harper Government was serious about this issue, instead of offering us all window dressing, they would be negotiating with First Nations on the issues of Traditional and Advanced Education, and Self-Government. These are the real issues that need to be dealt with to give the youth of the great First Nations, the courage, the tenacity, and most importantly, the pride, to stand and rise as a nation that they are meant to be, and not fall to the whims of an occupational and controlling Government.
