Orlando, Florida: After being inspired by DJ Shadows & Cut - TopicsExpress

Orlando, Florida: After being inspired by DJ Shadows & Cut Chemists now legendary performance in Otown last Sunday, tonight in the Friday after-hours Ill be quick-mixing, cutting and scratching, my personal collection of electro funk--the sound of some of the early days of hip hop, live on the air on WPRK 91.5 FM, 3AM-5AM into your Saturday morning. wprk.org/ My roots as a DJ are, have been, and always will be in hip hop--the real hip hop sound and culture. I may play underground house music and techno and other closely related genres nowadays but when I do, I do so in the spirit of hip hop. After being in a big room full of my fellow hip hop peeps and two DJs/turntablists that have raised the bar high for the rest of us in the craft, after looking back at the legacy and rich history our culture has given to people like us that are restless and want more than what the mainstream tries to spoon feed us, I feel and I am buzzing with pride that I am very much, and have been since its early days, a part of this movement. I have been offered the promise of big exposure as a DJ and money to showcase the art of turntablism/battle, which is an element of hip hop culture, and label it as EDM for the sake of quick bucks and easy promotion to the masses in Orlando. Even though Im pretty much broke, pawned most of my audio equipment, cant get gigs in town, and I feel Im still relatively unknown in my craft, I declined the offer because my love for hip hop runs too deep and Il never betray it. Im a DJ because of hip hop; its that simple. So no Underground Rhythm District this week but will return next weekend. This Friday night will instead be the Basement Groove Collective old school show for two hours. And for my electronic music listeners here is something to consider. The electro funk I will be playing had an influence on the emergence of the techno genre. Techno pioneer Juan Atkins, AKA Model 500 and Cybotron, produced classics in that scene. Consider it a history lesson. Cheers Orlando, FL. marsradiodj/#!basement-groove-collective/c5k2
