Orthodox Learning Centre – OLC St. Gregorios Orthodox Christian Youth Movement Kuwait Objective We invite you for a Journey to Nicea, where the Christian Theology has formulated, to find our Ancient Church. “The One, Holy, Catholic & Apostolic Church”. We will meet Emperor Constantine in his full mighty together with our Holy Fathers who blessed the First Ecumenical Council at Nicea (AD 325). We continue our journey through the Synods 2nd(Constantinople), 3rd (Ephesus), 4th (Chalcedon), 5th & 6th (Constantinople), and 7th(Nicea). We will learn the major Heresies our Holy Fathers had denounced and the Doctrines they formulated. We will meet and hear from the historic church luminaries as Ignatius of Antioch, Irenaeus of Lyons, Hippolytus, Athanasius, John Chrysostom, Nicholas of Myra, Basil the Great, Gregory of Nazianzus, Gregory of Nyssa, John Cassian, John of Damscus and Maximos the Confessor. We will review the First Schism which separated Oriental and Byzantine Orthodoxy (Chalcedon) then our Journey continues through the 2nd Great Schism (AD 1054) where Roman Catholicism originated on the Papal claims and Filioque controversy. We will learn about the conversion of Slavs during the intensive missionary activity of Cyril and Methodius. We will then witness the persecution and perseverance of Holy Church under Turks and then the transformation of Moscow as Third Rome. We will continue our journey to the twentieth century on the influence of Arabs and the perseverance of Russian Christianity under militant Atheists. Finally our First part of Journey ends in the modern era “Diaspora and Mission”. Welcome on board and we promise an exciting journey to discover “Ancient Christianity speaking to the Modern World”.
