Oscar Grant,22,2009. African American. While celebrating New Years, Grant and his friends were provoked to get into a fight on a Bart train. Cops were then called and dispatched to the scene where they detained several of the participants. Grant then tries to get up and plead with the officers where he is then taken down and restrained face down by two other officers. While Grant is restrained and face down another officer takes out his weapon and fires a single shot into his back,killing him. Many of the train passengers were recording this event with their cellphones when it occured and have posted several angles of it on Youtube which you can still see today. This episode is actually the subject of the film Fruitvale Station which opens Friday. The officer who shot him stated that he thought he pulled out his taser and only served 11 months in jail. Protests in California. These men along with Trayvon Martin and countless others were victims of these crimes because of a constant state of fear that has doomed Black People since the end of the Civil War and has been passed down from generation to generation.l dont think George Zimmerman is a bad guy but I do think he is the proponent of that fear which led to that kids death and so many others. Many have tried to not make this about race but I will ask you the same question that mathew McConaughey asked at the end of a Time to Kill. What if he (Trayvon Martin) were white?
