Osun poll: Group, REC disagree on alleged fraud OCTOBER 3, 2014 BY ENIOLA AKINKUOTU SOURCE: THE PUNCH INEC boss, Attahiru Jega A Group, Osun Mandate Initiative, on Thursday, accused the Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ambassador Rufus Akeju, of aiding the manipulation of voter registers and ensuring victory for Governor Rauf Aregbeesola in the August 9 poll. The group made the accusation in a statement by its Chairman and Secretary, Mr. Adunola Bimbo and Mr. Femi Odofin, respectively. But Akeju, who spoke with our correspondent on the telephone, dismissed the accusation, saying the media had been erroneously awash with fabrications against his person. Cautioning the media against being used unscrupulously,Akeju said the Independent National Electoral Commission remained committed to protecting electoral integrity. The group described the election as “a fraud and daylight robbery.” It stated further, “Akeju is the brain behind the electoral fraud being perpetrated by the APC before and during the exercise in the state.” “It should further be mentioned that Akeju with the assistance of his cohorts who are INEC officials recruited ad hoc staff to aid the All Progressives Congress to rig and win the election at all cost.” It will be recalled that Akeju did not participate in the conduct of the election.
