Oswego, NY The Coast Guard assisted six recreational boaters in two separate cases this morning after each of the vessels began taking on water. At 7:30 a.m., the watchstander at Coast Guard Station Oswego, NY, received a radio call from a person aboard a 23-foot pleasure craft with two other people aboard stating they were taking on water in Oswego Harbor. A boatcrew aboard a 25-foot response boat from Station Oswego was diverted from a patrol and arrived on scene within minutes, took the vessel in tow and safely moored it at Wrights Landing Marina in Oswego. After mooring the assisted boat, the boatcrew was then diverted to another rescue after receiving a report of a 22-foot vessel with three persons on board taking on water in near the marina. The boat crew arrived on scene within minutes and took the second vessel in tow, mooring the distressed vessel at Station Oswegos moorings before dewatering the vessel. The cause of the flooding in both cases is unknown. The Coast Guard encourages boaters to always call for help if there is a need for assistance. Taking early precautions can help prevent unexpected situations from becoming emergencies. -USCG
