Our CEOs reflections on RCCs mission ... Dear Friend, As you make your final gifts of 2014, I hope that you will consider the needs of the LGBTQ community members who live in Contra Costa County. While our community has made tremendous strides towards equality, not all of our community members have had equal access to these advances. Since 2007 the RCC has been working to build programs and services for our community members who need help and support. We have focused our efforts on serving LGBTQ youth, LGBTQ seniors, People Living with HIV, and those community members who need counseling and case management supportive services. In the process we have seen first hand that for many of us, equality and prosperity are still elusive goals. In particular, many of our youth still face the most important developmental years of their lives without adequate support; many of our LGBTQ seniors face difficult choices without compassionate care givers; and for many of us, a lifetime of accumulated rejection and stress leads to unemployment, underemployment and emotional burdens we carry in silence. I know that no single effort will change all of these challenges overnight, but I rely on the maxim that says we can think globally and act locally -- and in that process we will let our neighbors and friends know that they are not alone. Over the last month we have sent out emails and letters telling you the stories of some of the people who make RCC the vibrant community center it is. I hope you found something inspiring in the stories about our youth participant Sarah, our volunteer Rolland, our intern Roman, our supporter and collaborator Rev. Kamal, and our board President Leslie Takahashi. With your support we will continue this work into the coming year.
