Our Christmas tree is up! It’s the first for me in many ways… “The First Tree” decorated not only with my ornaments, from all the previous years, engraved with vivid memories of my tears, cheers, hopes and dreams, but also with my boyfriend Jim’s ornaments, revealing how much we share in common through their stories. The first tree Jim and I put up in our home the day after Thanksgiving … which was another first … our extended families got together to kick off the holiday season … and they had fun! The first tree my mom, who was visiting from Haiti, helped us decorate … we all had a blast. For some this may seem quite normal, but it was something I always longed for and dream of all my life - especially this time of year. ). Coming from a background where being gay is taboo, it has been my lifelong quest to win the unconditional love of my mom - which proved difficult and painful at times, as she could not accept my lifestyle and embrace the fact that I can be in love with a man. Now she embraced Jim like her own son. They are both fond of each other and share a lot in common, which does not surprise me, considering they are both Geminis: a blessing and a curse at times :-)
