“Our National Treasurer resigned after Presidency promised him a contract” – New PDP By Wale Odunsi on September 16, 2013 Hours after the National Treasurer of the ‘New’ Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Tanko Isiaku Gwamna, resigned from his post as National Working Committee, the faction has alleged that he switched allegiance after the Presidency promised to give him a juicy contract. Gwamna in a press statement he issued in Abuja on Sunday, said he took the step to resigned after a careful study of the unfolding events in the polity, and a deep reflection of the consequences of such impasse on the party. “This decision was arrived at after a careful study of the unfolding events in the polity and a deep sober reflection of the consequences of the outcome of such impasse on our party,’’ he said. According to him, as a lover of democracy, he is of the belief that the impasse will not augur well for the unity, peace, progress and prosperity of the party in particular, and the nation in general. Gwamna further called on all party faithful to unite and ensure the amicable resolution of the current impasse in the party. “Our desire is for the PDP to continue to lead while others follow, as such, we must eschew all vices capable of unnecessarily heating up the polity. “I pledge my loyalty to the Bamanga Tukur leadership, while calling on all party faithful to do same,’’ he said. But the National Publicity Secretary of the Baraje faction, Chukwuemeka Eze, told PREMIUM TIMES that Gwamna resigned because of the contract the Presidency had promised him. “Yes, I just confirmed that the Presidency forced the man to resign because of (a) contract they want to issue out to him,” the spokesman said.
