We are on the verge of something profound in this nation and the police, seemingly day by day distance themselves from compassion and understanding. We are your fellow man. Even if we are criminals at times, and though you only enforce the law rather than interpret it, please remember, WE deserve respect, and your respect should continually be earned. While some officer do make bad decisions, society itself makes them most often. Police officers typically get caught in bad situations after society members have escalated the situation. Remember we are a society that said it is okay to beat our children until the age of 18; however, it is not okay for anyone else to discipline the parents or the children. Even though the officers are in the wrong in the video (i.e. the video doesnt tell the whole story), the decease still share some of the burden in his own death for refusing to drop the knifes prior to getting shot. Do I agree with the shooting.... no way...but there is a reality that the general public will never know anything about until they ride along with officers... Please do not take it as I am defending these officers... and also note that not every officer in the video shot. Unfortunately you are correct, society has some of the burden, but we live in a society that rewards for using others for their own financial gain. If we cared about our citizens more, we would rise as a society, but as it is now it is completely an us vs them mindset. Especially with law enforcement.
