Our Next Meeting Our next meeting will be Monday, September 16th, at 7 PM, at the Kathleen and Robert Lawther Center, 16024 Madison Avenue, Lakewood. Our guest artist/demonstrator will be Michael Winston. He has demonstrated for us in the past. You might remember him as the artist who truly makes magic art with permanent (magic) markers. We were impressed, inspired, and thoroughly enjoyed that meeting. Our Last Meeting Our last meeting was Monday, August 19th, at our usual location chaired by our president Marie Sovacool. Chris and Barbara Georgette were guests along with Nancy Notarianni a guest of Donna Peters, and Joan Rosmussen who became our newest member. Marge Ridenour brought brochures from the Welcome Hour Community Center’s Art Show. Charlotte introduced her find at the St. John’s Westshore Art Festival our guest artist/demonstrater Aaron S. Bivins from Toledo. He had a picture of Miss Naomi’s Hair Shop, a small cottage like building in a rural setting, and a canvas with a rough sketch that he then painted in acrylic. He had some of each of the paints he used poured out in a plastic box with wet water color paper beneath them and water sprinkled over them. He claims that with a lid these can be kept moist for weeks. He started with the darks then painted in lighter colors. He mixed many colors right on the canvas, mixing one color into, or on top of another, not waiting for everything to dry completely. The result was a very charming, slightly impressionistic, painting that he completed during the demonstration. There was a raffle and Karen Bennet was the lucky winner. We enjoyed snacks and beverages throughout. Thank you Lana Loar, Suzanne Kizzen, Marie Sovacool, James Hendy, and Karen Bennet. Reminders and Special Notices We’re still online. Put in Lakewood Art League and several sites on Facebook will pop up. You do not need to be a member of Facebook to check these out. The Welcome House Community Center’s Art Show will be held Saturday September 21st from 10AM-4PM. It is at 27200 Lorain Road, North Olmsted, Ohio (In the Giant Eagle Parking Lot at Dover & Lorain). There might still be time to enter up to three pieces of your art for sale, but you still definitely will have time to go and enjoy the show. Contact Marge Ridenour at [email protected] or 440-356-2330 ext.24 if you have any questions. Most of the other shows brought up at our July and August meetings are over but there will be a Holiday Show at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Olmsted Falls on December 6th and 7th. Mary Ellen Salo and husband Don Carr are having a Halloween Art Show at the May-Salo Gallery, 13922 Wainsted Ave. Cleveland, Saturday, October 26th from 10AM to 6PM, and Sunday, October 27th, from noon to 5 PM. Donations of food would be appreciated. Anyone who brings something gets a wind chime, as long as they last. Costumes are optional but encouraged. Wainsted avenue is east off 140th Street near the John Marshall construction sight.
