Our Portable Appliance Testing Services At Yorkshire PAT Testing we carry out testing in line with HSE guidance and the new guidelines in the 4th Edition of the IET Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment. The level of inspection and testing required is dependent upon the risk of the appliance becoming faulty, which is dependent upon the type of appliance, the nature of its use and the environment in which it is used. This is being commonly referred to as a risk based approach to Portable Appliance Testing. This now means that rather than having everything tested annually there can be as little as 3 months to as long as 4 years between testing depending on the risk. For example a computer monitor in an office may be tested every 3 to 4 years where as a vacuum cleaner may be every 3, 6 or 12 months. This has allowed many customers to reduce their costs by not paying for unnecessary testing
