Our campers received a special visit this morning from Vincent Melillo, a veteran from the famous Merrills Marauders unit. Mr. Melillo, 95, spoke extensively to the campers about his experiences from World War II. Named after their commanding officer General Frank Merrill, Merrills Marauders was a long range deep penetration unit that became known for its missions behind Japanese lines, often fighting against larger enemy forces. The Marauders fought in the jungles of the South-East Asian Theater during the war. Today their legacy is carried on in the form of The 75th Ranger Regiment.
