Our country is a mess. Divided... politically, racially, religiously, and morally. I had hoped that we had made progress with this, but considering the events of the past week, or so, I can see there is much work that needs to take place. I am white on the outside, but am of mixed race, so to me this has nothing to with the color of ones skin. When a young man gets in trouble, and the end result is him losing his life, it is a tragedy. Things didnt have to turn out this way, but there consequences for actions, and this young man paid for his actions with his life. I have to say that I disagree with rioting as a response to the death of Michael Brown. It is senseless, and serves no useful purpose. I also see the wrong in people talking of going to Ferguson to riot in response. This is useless, as well. Nothing can undo the wrong on either side of this. Mr. Brown should not have participated in an altercation with Mr. Wilson, and Mr. Wilson should not have mortally wounded Mr. Brown, plain, and simple. Something to be considered is the fact that when an individual is confronted by police, they need to react in a cooperative manor. When you take on the police, you are going to lose that fight. Something else to consider is, when you stir the pot in response, you are making things worse. Theres no going back, and those of us who are on the outside of this need to step back, and think before we decide to comment, or take action. There has been enough action without thought, and look where its taken us. To take sides based on race is a dead end street, and leads only to more division, and problems. Both sides need to do the right thing. The rioting needs to stop, not be augmented by others. The hate speech needs to stop, not be perpetuated by those of us who know nothing but what we see from the media. Most importantly, we all need to hesitate to make a judgement call on this until all the facts have been presented. That means the media needs to refrain from offering opinion, and report the facts as they become known. There has been too much bloodshed. It is time for unity, and the only way to achieve unity is through patience, tolerance, and forgiveness.
