Our country was at war with Viet Nam. We had friends who never came home. We all were so scared for the ones we loved. There was no time for much fanciness those days. So, On this morning 45 years ago I married the most wonderful Boy I ever knew and raced with him to be back on his then base in Maryland before tomorrow night. We traveled the world while he sailed beneath the seas in charge of the nuclear reactor on the USS Nathan Hale for Hyman Rickover in the submarine service. That still makes my heart shudder a bit to recall. He gave me the loveliest gift I ever received, my precious Drew. Seems incredible, the expanse of years. Some days, I dont feel quite as much the Girl as others. Some years I forget entirely; perhaps, this milestone required a bit of reflection. We had many rather magnificent years, until they werent. Ive had two loves of my life; perhaps, thats all ones allowed.
