Our dedicated Ape Team have been working non-stop over the past week to build something extraordinary for one of our chimpanzee groups. Along with their day to day tasks the team have been constructing a new activity frame for the chimps to use. This was built around the older and much smaller frame that they had before and involved a number of large posts being put into the ground with ropes linking them all together that the chimps can climb and swing on. There are also different types of net attached to the frame. The new frame increases how high the chimps can climb and thus increases the amount of 3D space available to them as they can now climb up and around the frame in many different ways! Here are some pictures showing the work from start to finish – including the chimps venturing out to see it for the first time. As you can see they enjoyed it very much especially Jomar who was the first to climb straight to the top!
