Our friend and long-time industry veteran Richard Alleger retired on Friday. Rodale says: After serving as a regional sales director for Marvel Comics, he joined Rodale in 1981, rising to single copy sales manager, director of corporate retail sales, VP and, as of 2007, SVP of retail. As part of overseeing retail sales in the U.S. and abroad, he was instrumental in Mens Healths launches in the U.S., U.K. and France, launch publisher for several magazines, and publisher of Rodale Specials for eight years. He has won five Category Captain awards (voted on by retailers), Trailblazer and Audience Development awards for innovation at retail in the U.S., and in the U.K., Launch of the Year and six retail and direct mail awards. He is a past president and current board member of PBAA and a senior associate board member of IPDA, and has served as chairman of the Magazine Retail Advisory Council and the MPA Retail Conference, among other industry roles. Rich has made innumerable contributions to the magazine retail business during his long, distinguished career, said IPDA president Jerry Lynch. Hes been extremely generous in sharing his time and expertise and working with channel partners to help drive key industry initiatives. We will miss him, but of course wish him all the best in his well-earned retirement
