Our friends in TN are having troubles going and coming. I was just sent this link in which a mom in Hendersonville, located north of Nashville, has been advised by school officials that she is no longer allowed to let her children walk to school. She may not even escort her children as they walk to school. Why? They live just a few yards outside the official zone in which students are permitted to walk. Whatever happened to encouraging children to be more active and get more exercise? Get some fresh air? How is America supposed to drop those excess pounds when we are forbidden to walk? What would Michelle Obama say? I understand this is only one small example in only one town, but what is next? We’ve taken away the right of little boys to play traditionally familiar “boy-type” games such as tug-of-war and Cowboys and Indians. What’s next? Will we find an excuse for them to avoid the swing set or slide? When a parent or a teacher has control over the children in their care, and they are encouraging healthy and safe activity, shouldn’t it be lauded instead of prohibited? ~Temerity Dowell wsmv/story/23243773/hendersonville-mom-upset-district-wont-let-kids-walk-to-school
