Our hearts are so broken today...All of us here at City Pets - TopicsExpress

Our hearts are so broken today...All of us here at City Pets became very fond of our new friend, Speckles, during these past 2 weeks as her amazing Foster Mom exposed her to a kind, loving, patient world...a world she hadnt known before. We were only too happy to help find her forever home. How could we know that it would be HEAVEN?! Its all very senseless really. A choice. One made and carried out without first alerting the (Foster) Mom of what was about to happen. NOT NICE! Everyone knows that there were alternatives to abruptly ending this sweet girls life. She had one fault that deemed her unworthy to exist...food guarding. Im not an animal behavior specialist but I do know that she did not deserve what she received. You see...it was too late. She was already loved. Thats what happens during the foster care period. Once appointed the role of Mom, whether it be temporary or otherwise, our natural instincts kick in to protect, guide, nurture and ultimately love. Its cruel to ignore this bond and proceed to make a literal life or death decision, informing the Mom only AFTER the fact. We are stunned. No one can even believe it happened. And NO ONE will ever want to risk the potential heartache, of voluntarily giving an animal their time, energy, dedication, resources, if the possibility exists that the story would have this unimaginable ending! THE ANTI-CRUELTY SOCIETY of Chicago, you owe it to the community that fiercely supports your efforts in saving the lives of innocent animals, to protect them from this unnecessary heartache! Do not allow and encourage someone to grow close to a pet, introduce him/her to their friends and family, allowing yet more relationships to develop and THEN decide the animal cannot be saved. Again, its CRUEL! There are many extremely upset people today. My sister and I considered closing our shop to the public after learning of this very sad development because the distress was just too overwhelming. We just profusely praised her for being such a good girl and learning the command to sit in her very first training class on Sunday- and now shes gone. THERE HAD TO BE A BETTER WAY OF HANDLING THIS.
