Our home needs adaptation due to the severe mental and physical disability to Claudia following her treatment for metastatic pineoblastoma. It goes without saying (well I thought so) that we are incredibly happy and relieved that Claudia should not die in the immediate future. It is still highly unlikely that she will have a long life, due to having more treatment for cancer than most people in Britain and indeed the world. We have been working closely with our local council, OTs, physios etc and other agencies. After months of discussion and meetings, it was decided that since the BASIC adaptation of the bedroom and wet room only costing £41,500 and the fact that didnt include, doorways, ramps, access, driveway etc, the total cost was most likely to be around £70,000 so even with making use of the full grant available, there was a shortfall of approx. £40,000....of course this figures could fluctuate EITHER way. We were advised, all round, that moving to a house that didnt require as much adaptation was the best option. This isnt something that we wanted to do. This I not something we chose, it is simply fact, the situation we find ourselves in. We were fortunate, in that we received an offer almost immediately for our house. There are many basic costs involved in moving house as most people would understand. This kapipal page was ONLY set up as many and I mean many, (not one or two) people kindly expressed a want and a desire to help. Some people even went to the lengths of setting up contribution pages themselves. It was at this point, we decided that it would be better, for all involved, if there was only one official page where people could contribute, safe in the knowledge, that the money went direct to the correct place. This was not and is not, a mortgage top up so that we can move to a mansion, nor is it allowing us to move mortgage free.....which is quite ridiculous since we have practically exhausted our lending....this is a page, created for the people who do WANT to help. Once we move, we still have adaptations to make. We have also found that it is impossible to find anything for cheaper or even the same price in the town we love. So against, anything that we ever wanted, we are having to leave. Were having to move away from the place that we call home, from the place that is our childrens home town. We do not want sympathy, nor comments that can be interpreted as supportive when they are clearly having a dig. Ultimately, we never ever chose nor did anything to be in this situation and I think some people would be very wise to remember that before ranting on what some people think is a public domain, Let me put it this way, it isnt.
